PSITTACIDAE (Parrots)
BLUE HEADED MACAW
(Ara Couloni) - 41 cm
FOOD:
Nuts, fruit, seeds.
DISTRIBUTION:
Peru, Brazil and Bolivia.
NOTES:
This is another species of the miniature macaws and is perhaps one of the rarest. They are quite distinctive looking with their blue heads contrasting greatly with their green bodies. They are usually found in pairs or trios but never in large flocks. Their flight call is a rasping purr, so soft in tone that it is easily overlooked.
