COLUMBIDAE (Pigeons and Doves)
CRESTED PIGEON
(Ocyphaps lophotes) - 33cm
FOOD:
Seeds, millet, insects, green food.
DISTRIBUTION:
Australia, apart from heavy rainfall regions, and east of Great Dividing Range in E. Australia.
NOTES:
Although not widely available these birds make interesting and hardy aviary occupants. Pairs of these pigeons may be housed quite satisfactorily with non-aggressive birds as it is only with their own species they are likely to quarrel. They like to make an untidy nest in a secluded part of their quarters preferably screened with branches. These pigeons dust bathe and a tray of sand can be provided for this purpose.
