PSITTACIDAE (Parrots)

Play sound

CUBAN AMAZON

(Amazona Leucocephala) 32 cm
FOOD: Fruits, berries, seeds, nuts, leaf buds, blossoms.
DISTRIBUTION: Cuba and other Caribbean islands.
NOTES:

This bird is both costly and rare. Although it is a timid bird it is noisy in flight. At times they feed and rest silently in the treetops so observers are often unaware of their presence until they fly off screeching loudly. These parrots are often seen feeding in small groups by day and then form into flocks that settle before nightfall to roost in groves in trees.
