PSITTACIDAE (Parrots)

Play sound

DUSKY PIONUS

(Pionus fuscus) - 24cm
FOOD: Feeds mainly on seeds, nuts, fruit and vegetables.
DISTRIBUTION: From Colombia through Venezuela, the Guyana's and Brazil, north of the Amazon.
NOTES:

This is one of the less commonly available Pionus species, and shows considerable variation in its coloration. Surprisingly little has been recorded on the habits of dusky parrots. The birds are usually encountered single, in pairs or in small groups in the forest canopy. Their call is a high pitched shrieking sounding almost like a yelp.
