PSITTACIDAE (Parrots)
ECLECTUS PARROT
(Lorius Roratus) 36cm
FOOD:
Seeds, nuts, fruit and nectar.
DISTRIBUTION:
North-east Australia, New Guinea and Solomon islands.
NOTES:
Both sexes are very brilliantly colored, however this is probably the only bird where the female (red with rich blue abdomen) is more beautifully colored than the male (generally green). This is a wary and very noisy bird. The sound of its call is extremely ear-piercing with the female having a screeching whistle, and the male having a strong throaty note.
