CACATUIDAE (Cockatoos)
GALAH or ROSEATE COCKATOO
(Cacatua roseicapilla) - 38cm
FOOD:
Canary seed, millet, peanuts, sunflower seeds, fruits and berries.
DISTRIBUTION:
Australia, Tasmania
NOTES:
These birds are gentle, intelligent and good talkers. They feed mainly on the ground and nest in the hollows of eucalyptus tree trunks. Feeding is important with these birds as they are susceptible to tumors which can grow to a sufficiently large size to handicap the bird’s flight. Often seen in huge flocks, containing hundreds of birds, causing widespread damage to ripening crops.
