PSITTACIDAE (Parrots)
GOLDEN CONURE
(Aratinga Guarouba) - 34 cm
FOOD:
Fruits, seeds, nuts, berries.
DISTRIBUTION:
North eastern Brazil, south of the Amazon River.
NOTES:
This bird is well known although uncommon in captivity. Little is known of its habits in the wild state. They can be surprisingly inconspicuous while feeding but in flight they are extremely noisy, often being heard before they are seen. Destruction of the forest habitat, coupled with a strong demand even locally for caged birds has been identified as the main causes for declining numbers.
