ACCIPITRIDAE (Hawks and Eagles)
GOLDEN EAGLE
(Aquila Chrysaetos) - 82cm
FOOD:
Mammals, small birds and carrion
DISTRIBUTION:
Europe, Asia, North Africa, North America.
NOTES:
The most regal of the eagle family is the Golden Eagle. It’s present rarity is largely due to shooting by “sportsmen”. This bird is indeed a great hunter and feeds largely on animals it kills with its powerful talons. Golden Eagles are long lived birds and once they have established a nesting spot will return to it year after year. Their wingspan is over 2 meters. Below is a picture of our Female Golden Eagle.
