FOOD:
Mixed vegetable, shoots, seeds, berries.
DISTRIBUTION:
South-east Russia, Asia to Mongolia, south-western China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Burma; introduced to Europe, north America, New Zealand.
NOTES:
This bird originated in China but is now widespread throughout Europe particularly in the British Isles. They are known as a game bird rather than an aviary bird and have been introduced for sport in many countries. Due to interference from man many of the subspecies are no longer pure.
