DISTRIBUTION:
From Iceland to Commander Islands in Pacific, wintering south to Nile valley, Persian Gulf, India, south China, Philippines.
NOTES:
These ducks are particularly common in freshwater marshes. They easily become tame and are particularly gregarious in winter. Although not brightly patterned they are elegant birds. Both sexes have the characteristic tufts on the backs of their heads, but it is much more apparent in the drake.
